On the second season of Netflix's "Emily in Paris," it was revealed that British boyfriend of the titular character — played by Lily Collins — plans on moving to London, but wants to have a long-distance relationship.

But the announcement brought up another possibility for the hit Netflix show (which was created by Darren Star, who also created "Sex and the City" and its current spinoff, "And Just Like That"): Will Samantha Jones turn up on "Emily in Paris?"

It is not such an improbable idea considering that Jones is a fictional character invented by Star who isn't appearing in person on the HBO Max spinoff, but appears to deserve a mention in every episode. The show even alluded to the real-life rift between Kim Cattrall, who famously turned down playing Samantha in the sequel or a planned third franchise film. The series explained her absence by saying she moved to London and dropped Carrie (as well as Miranda and Charlotte) as a friend after a professional issue.

Some have seen her passive/aggressive texting relationship with Carrie as an olive branch to Cattrall to return to the show, but others see it as an opportunity to get the character back on television, if only as a guest spot on "Emily in Paris."

As E! Entertainment reported: "If you're wondering about what the two shows have in common, let's not forget that they were both created by director Darren Star. And not only did Samantha Jones pack up and move to London, as explained in the HBO Max reboot, 'And Just Like That'—but Emily's love interest this season (spoiler!) also moves to London. So, all the cues for a little crossover don't seem too far-fetched, after all."

Jen Chaney, TV Critic at Vulture, prophesied such a move last January when she tweeted a theory that Samantha would turn up in a crossover episode of "Emily in Paris."

Refinery29 seconded the notion. "The more you think about the idea, the more it kind of makes sense. Because Kim Cattrall decided not to reprise her role as Samantha in the Sex and the City revival series, And Just Like That... dealt with her absence by saying she has moved to London. From there, Samantha is only a Eurostar ride away from Emily Cooper and her Paris-based marketing firm Savoir."

Others chimed on social media hoping for the crossover.
