Omar Apollo posted a censored still of his full-frontal moment in "Queer" in order to let fans know the film is available now on VOD. Some fans unfollowed him instead – and earned a clapback from the out singer, who took to Instagram Stories to tell his former followers not to let the door hit them on the way out.
In an earlier story, EDGE reported on the post (which is no longer visible), relaying the content of Apollo's Instagram Stories message.
"I'm losing followers for posting this," Apollo posted, before inviting former fans to "Unfollow me if ur a homophobe. You're not my target audience."
"I will never make myself 'palatable,'" Apollo went on to add. "This isn't my life, I AM life. Stupid."
"His response has been met with support from fans," Pink News noted, quoting one commenter who assured the singer, "I'm a new follower, here to replace the recent unfollows."
As previously reported, Apollo took to Instagram to share a still from the film, in which he appears as a one-night stand for Daniel Craig's character. The singer has no shyness about his full-frontal moment, which is set in a neon-flooded hotel room.
Nor was Apollo shy (other than the strategic placement of a laughing emoji) about sharing a funny and provocative still of Craig seemingly looking directly at his package as Apollo stands in front of the bed where Craig is perched.
Though it is hardly news that the singer is gay - he has been out for some time - the post reportedly triggered a wave of unfollows, prompting the response on Instagram Stories.
But others stuck by their man. Pink News relayed how supportive messages celebrated the film's poignant, explicit moment.
"Dying to know what the increase in streams was after you posted this," one person posted.
Comments on the original post were just as upbeat.
"👏👏👏 it was quite impressive... " one person posted, adding: "the movie too 😂".
"When can I see it in person? 😂" another fan queried.
"finally i can stream in peace," another quipped.
"Its been 10 minutes and I'm still here," another fan added.
